Beatin' the Heat - (for one day at least).

We played hookie yesterday and took off to Harris Beach in Brookings. Medford had a high of 105 on Monday and we didn't want to be around for that. We meet the Anders at the coast and played all afternoon. It was great fun. Jonah played in the waves for a long time and when we moved our stuff up to the higher sand, he 'swam' in the sand to get warm. He was a sandy mess, but loved every moment of it so we just let him play. Mickey enjoyed sucking the salt off of driftwood and her sandy, salty hands! She was so cute examining the sand on her little hands.

We also got to introduce Jonah to flocks and flocks of gulls. They swarmed us anytime we pulled out a piece of food. He burnt off a lot of stored up car ride energy by chasing after those birds. After the beach we went to the Brookings Harbor and had fish and chips, shrimp (yummmmm) and ice cream cones. Jonah got his first ice cream cone with strawberry ice cream. He did a good job keeping the ice cream in the cone, but grew tired of his treat so he set it down on the boardwalk and was followed closely by a flock of gulls. I let him leave it and back away and a bird scarfed it down so fast and flew away.

It was a great day and fun to do something spur of the moment. I'm so glad the kids were happy and enjoyed themselves. We'll have to do it again sometime soon.

Oh man I'm jealous! What a great idea! I'm going to suggest we do the same this weekend ;0)

Great pics by the way...love the one of Jonah making sand angels.

Go and enjoy! Brookings high is lower than our lows! It was so nice to get away from the heat and it's always nice on the beach. Bring your sunscreen!
